SAMDbServer - Using the Server

Here are the details you need to know to begin using the SAMDbServer from your client programs.

• CORBA IDL Interfaces: To properly use the SAMDbServer, you must understand the interfaces found here. They are the only API into the SAMDbServer.
  Note: The base level interfaces are not implemented in SAMDbServer. They are generated from db_server_gen and should be ingorned for SAMDbServer.

• The Naming Service: You must know the naming service to contact and the technique for contacting it.

  • SAM Config: The sam_config product sets up the proper naming service variables for the Fnorb and Orbacus ORB's that have been used by the SAM team to-date. See the sam_config documentation for details on its usage.
  • Naming Service Status: Status of the various naming services, showing all the servers available from them can be found at the following web sites.
    Production Naming Service: All servers running on d0db (aka d0ora1) are shown here. Of interest to SAMDbServer clients is the availability of SAMDbServer.prd:SAMDbServer. This is the production SAMDbServer.
    Development Naming Service: All servers running on d0db-dev (aka d0ora3) are shown here. Of interest to SAMDbServer clients is the availability of SAMDbServer.dev:SAMDbServer. This is the development SAMDbServer.
  • Contacting the Naming Service: A Python/Fnorb example of the code required to contact the naming server can be found in the db_server_gen example area, in the CorbaClient.py file. It is used in the client-example.py file, by the two lines:
